2 Rohingyas killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’

Two Rohingyas men from Myanmar have been killed a so-called gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The incident occurred in Kharangkhali area in Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar around 4:30am on Wednesday.

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Teknaf BGB 2nd Battalion acting commander Shariful Islam Jomadder said: “A patrol team encountered two people attempting to trespass into Bangladesh territory from Myanmar through the Kharangkhali-Naf River border point.”

“The trespassers fired upon the BGB team, as they tried to stop them, triggering a gunfight. Two Rohingya men of Myanmar were killed at the scene. During a search, 190,000 pieces of yaba tablets were seized from the area.”

BGB sources added that the deceased men have not identified as yet, and the bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

BGB is in the process of filing a case in this regard.
