A Bangladeshi teenager was shot dead near the Domdoma border area in Companiganj upazila, Sylhet on Friday morning.
Locals said he was shot by a group of Khasia people based in India.
The deceased was identified as Md Babul Miah, 19, resident of Turang village located along the Bangladesh-India border.
Locals said Babul had been standing near Sub-Pillar No 2 of BorderPillar No 1,260 on Friday morning, when a group of people from the other side of the border opened fire at him.
Babul was killed on the spot. His body was later recovered with the help of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel.
Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Companiganj police station OC Tajul Islam said a group from the Indian Khasia community opened fire at Babul when he went to a betel nut garden adjacent to the border.
His body has been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, the OC added.
