A freedom fighter in Feni has demanded law enforcement and the district administration protect his life and land.
Freedom fighter Ifranur Rahman made the demands at a press conference held at Midtown Convention Hall, near West Daktarpara in Feni town, on Wednesday afternoon.
Through a written statement, Ifranur said 21 decimals of land behind the police outpost in Feni town—falling in the Rampur mouja—are owned by him and 28 of his relatives.
However, disregarding the court's directives, a gang of land encroachers, extortionists, and criminals have grabbed the land by depositing: bricks, rods, cement, and all the materials needed to build the structures.
On March 18, Ifranur went to inspect his land when he witnessed the latest developments. When he tried to stop the gang, they physically assaulted him and demanded he pay them a large sum of money.
Ifranur filed a general diary with Feni model police station, asking for protection. He also sent a written complaint to the Feni district commissioner and superintendent of police, asking for cooperation on the matter.
Ifranur furthered that the 21 decimals of land have belonged to his family, for generations, since 1922. Due to an ongoing case between the heirs of the property, the court ordered the Feni model police station officials to maintain discipline on the land.
That is when the land came to the attention of the gang of land encroachers and extortionists, led by Bakhtiar Islam Munna. Munna's gang has terrorized Ifranur and the tenants on his land, Ifranur said.
He complained that Munna's gang also stopped his son from constructing a house on their ancestral lands in Jayalashkar in Daganbhuiyan. He urged Feni journalists and broadcast media senior personnel to cooperate with him in unmasking these criminals, and helping bring them to book.
