Rumours of a gold statue led to a kerfuffle in a Jhenidah village on Monday.
Shihab, a local youth, was bathing in a local pond with a friend when he felt something metallic against his feet. He dug up the object and saw it was a small statuette.
When Shihab showed the statuette to his parents, word spread around and a team of the Jhenidah Detective Branch police raided his home and confiscated the statuette.
Sub-Inspector Zoha with the Jhenidah DB police said it was not a gold statuette, but brass.
He said it will be inspected at the office of the district superintendent of police in the presence of local elected officials.
