Prominent writer Hasan Azizul Huq, and Language hero, Ghulam Arieff Tipoo, were honoured by the Rajshahi city corporation mayor on Sunday for winning the highest state awards, Independence Award and Ekushey Padak, this year.
They were honoured at the inauguration function of a 10-day Bangabandhu International Cultural Festival in the city.
Both personalities received crests, certificates, and flower bouquets from RCC Mayor, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton.
Among others, Poet Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, and Language hero Abul Hossain, spoke at the function where Dr Atiur Rahman, former governor of Bangladesh Bank, attended as chief guest.
Hasan Azizul Huq got the Independence Award for literature, and Tipoo, a war crimes prosecutor, was awarded the Ekushey Padak for his contribution to the 1952 Language Movement.
