A woman was gang-raped in Tangail in front of her boyfriend, who was tortured by the aggressors.
The incident occurred on March 11 in Sakhipur upazila of Tangail.
The survivor has filed a case against five people in this regard. Police have so far detained one Jalal Uddin, 25.
The other four named in the case are Saddam Hossain, 27, Ashraful, 26, Nazrul Islam, 30 and Afaz Uddin, 23.
The survivor told police the rapists videotaped the incident on a mobile phone. Police have recovered the mobile phone.
The case investigation officer and Sakhipur police station Inspector, Lutfur Kabir, confirmed the incident and said: “We have arrested one person in this regard. We have also recovered the mobile phone they used to record the incident.
“We are trying to locate the others named in the case and arrest them as well.”
Lutfur Kabir said the rape survivor was sent to Tangail Medical College for medical tests.
According to the rape survivor, she and her boyfriend were sitting together in a field around 4pm when they were accosted by the five. They bound the hands and feet of the two and forced them into a nearby jungle.
They undressed both of them and beat them up. The aggressors then tried to force them to copulate, and wanted to record it. When they refused, they were beaten up again.
The five then tied the boyfriend to a tree and tortured him. They demanded Tk50,000 from him. When he refused to give it, they gang-raped the woman and recorded the act.
Local UP member Hero Talukdar said: “The accused in this incident are marked criminals. We demand justice for the victims.”
The victim’s father said he wants exemplary punishment for the people who hurt his daughter. The family took the matter to the village elders for arbitration first, but they failed to resolve the matter. They decided to file the case afterwards.
