Infant abducted for ransom found dead

A two-and-a-half-month-old infant, reportedly abducted on March 10 from Bisharighat village of Morrelganj upazila in Bagerhat, was found dead on Sunday.

Police sources said, based on the confessional statement of primary accused Ridoy Chaprashi of Gulishakhali village, the body of the infant was recovered from a toilet in the Kacharibari area of Bisharighata village.

Ridoy and five others were arrested between last Thursday and Friday for their suspected connection with the abduction, said Morrelganj police station Officer-in-Charge KM Azizul Islam.

Morrelganj police circle Additional Superintendent of Police, Riazul Islam, UNO Kamruzzaman, and Morrelganj police station Officer-in-Charge, KM Azizul Islam, were present when the child's body was recovered.

Abdullah, the two-and-a-half-month-old son of Md Sirajul Islam Shohag, was kidnapped in the early hours of March 11.

The criminals entered Shohag’s house after cutting through the window grille, while the child was sleeping with his parents.

Reshma Begum, the mother of the child, said: “When I woke up around 4am, I could not find my child and found the window open. The kidnappers also took my phone."

Later in the morning, the kidnappers, using her phone, called a relative of the child and had demanded Tk10 lakh as ransom.
