BFF official Kiron lands in jail for remarks against PM

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) women's wing Chairman Mahfuza Akter Kiron has been sent to jail on charges of making derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after she was arrested on Saturday.

Her arrest comes two days after a warrant was issued by a Dhaka court after a sports organization sued her, reports Bangla Tribune.

A team of Motijheel police arrested Kiron, a FIFA council member, from Dhaka’s Dhanmondi on Saturday morning, Inspector Md Monir Hossain told Bangla Tribune.

She was produced before a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court, which sent her to jail after denying her bail plea, court police’s Jalal Uddin told Bangla Tribune.

On Wednesday, the chief metropolitan magistrate court ordered her arrest after a libel suit was lodged the previous day.

Abul Hasan Chowdhury Prince, a permanent member of Mohammedan Sporting Club and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, as well as vice president of Badda Jagoroni Club, filed the case accusing Kiron of making derogatory remarks against the prime minister.

Meanwhile, the BFF has opened an inquiry into the allegations.

Its President, Kazi Salahuddin, has formed a three-strong probe panel led by BFF Senior Vice President, Abdus Salam Murshedy, which has been told to file a report as soon as possible to the executive committee.
