A member of the Patgram Union Awami League has been charged under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act in Lalmonirhat.
Nuruzzaman alias Mannan, 38, has been accused in the case for posting a video on social media of him physically harassing a Class Seven student in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila.
The accused is a UP member of Patgram Union’s Ward 7 and also the Patgram Union Awami League general secretary.
According to the case statement, on Sunday, Nuruzzaman found the girl alone at her residence and forcefully harassed the schoolgirl in an attempt to rape her and when the girl’s sister-in-law rushed in to save her, he made his escape.
Subsequently, the victim’s father filed a written complaint with the Patgram police station.
Patgram police station OC Mansur Ali confirmed the matter and said: “We have received a written complaint regarding the incident. We have visited the crime scene and found evidences of the rape attempt.”
“A case has also been filed and the arrest of the accused is underway,” he added.
