Jubo Dal leader shot dead in Noakhali

Miscreants have reportedly beaten and shot a Jubo Dal leader dead in the Dhannapur village in Noakhali’s Sonaimuri upazila.

The deceased has been identified as Amjad Hossain, 42, of Keshabpur village under the Amishapara union of the upazila.

Sonaimuri police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Nazmul confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

On Thursday, police recovered the body of the victim from a rice field after locals informed the police, said SI Nazmul.

BNP’s Amishapara union unit General Secretary Jahirul Islam Bablu said Amjad Hossain was the president of Jubo Dal of Ward No 8 of the Amishapara union.

He also said that two days before the general election, Amjad’s house was attacked and vandalized.

After the incident he went to Dhaka. Amjad came home from Dhaka on Wednesday. He was sitting in a tea stall next to his house on Thursday when some armed men in a motorcycle and CNG auto-rickshaw took him away at gunpoint, said Bablu.

On information from locals, police came to the spot and brought the body to the police station.

SI Md Nazmul said Amjad’s body was sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

It is initially suspected that Amjad Hossain was killed out of personal rivalry, said SI Nazmul.

Amjad’s wife Swapna Begum filed a case with Sonaimuri police station.
