The annual Shiv Chaturdashi or Maha Shivratri festival took place amid huge enthusiasm and religious sentiments on Tuesday, at the 300-year-old Sri Sri Kal Bhairab Temple in Brahmanbaria.
Like the previous years, devotees were seen entering the temple with fruits, flowers, milk and other items needed to worship the Hindu God Shiva.
To mark the festival, Hindu devotees fast the entire day and worship Shiva, the god of destruction to mark the divine union of Shiva and Shakti.
Surbana Devi, Mishti Ranideb and Ahana Rani Roy, devotees at the temple said that every year during Shivratri they visited the ancient temple to worship Shiva and pray for the good of mankind.
Swapan Bhattacharya, a priest of the temple, said: “About 300 years ago, the Sri Sri Kal Bhairab temple was established. Since then, the Shiv Chaturdashi festival has been celebrated here. Like every year the festival saw peaceful and religious sentiment.
Meanwhile, a local fair on the temple premises was organized to mark the day-long festival, where shopkeepers were seen selling various clay toys and utensils along with various appetizing food items.
