Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the prime accused in a case filed over the rape of a schoolgirl in Tangail.
RAB members conducted a drive in the Madarkhola area of Tangail Sadar upazila and picked him up on Tuesday morning.
The arrestee is Sohel Rana, son of Samad Mia of Madarkhola area.
In a press release, RAB 12 Company Commander Major Hasan Arafat said: “Acting on tip-off, a team of ours arrested Sohel in the area. Previously, Sohel and his acquaintances had raped an eighth- grader and captured the footage of the incident using cell phone cameras. Later they threatened the girl with releasing the video footage on the internet.”
On February 25, a case was filed with Tangail model police station under several sections of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000 and Pornography Control Act 2012, says the release.
During initial interrogation, the accused, Sohel, confessed to the crime. He was handed over to the Tangail model police station for further legal action, the press release added.
