The father of Mahadi, alias Polash, who was killed at Chittagong airport after a foiled attempt to hijack a plane, has said he will not accept his son’s dead body.
“Polash was an unruly son. What he did was hurtful and brought shame upon us. I do not want to bring his bod home,” Pyar Jahan Sardar told the Bangla Tribune on Monday.
Polash, 23, was killed in a confrontation with army commandos on Sunday night at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong after he tried to hijack a Dubai-bound Bangladesh Biman flight.
Pyar Sardar said Polash was the youngest of four siblings and everyone’s favourtie. He said he would speak to the rest of the family before making a decision about the remains.
“I do not want to see him. But I will talk to the family before taking a decision,” he said.
“His mother has been bedridden since she heard of this news. She has not spoeken to anyone,” Pyar said.
“I used to pray all the time to Allah to bring him to the right path. I spoke to him often. But he never listened,” he added.
On Friday, Polash demanded 500 dirham from his father, saying he wanted to go to Dubai. His father gave him the money.
Polash had a case against him at Sonargaon police station and was in jail for 20 days before posting bail.
He did his dakhil from Sonargaon Taherpur Madrasa and got admitted to Sonargaon Degree College. But he did not pursue his education.
