Bishwa Ijtema now to end Tuesday

The Ahkeri Munajat of the followers of Maulana Muhammad Saad Al Kandhalvi, at the 54th Bishwa Ijtema has been extended by another day due to disruption caused by rain.

Gazipur Deputy Commissioner, Dr Dewan Md Humayun Kabir, said this after a meeting with the Tagligh faction of Maulana Saad on Saturday.

The heavy rain disrupted the congregation at the Ijtema field on the banks of the Turag River in Gazipur on Sunday morning.

The DC said: “After a request made by Maulana Saad’s supporters, the Akheri Munajat will now be held at 10am on Tuesday instead of Monday.”

The duration of the Muslim congregation was extended following a request made by the Tabligh group, he added.

Gazipur Metropolitan Commissioner, YM Belalur Rahman, said: “Police and Rapid Action Battalion are providing all the necessary security to people at the Ijtema venue and will continue till the end of Akheri Munajat.”

Earlier in the morning, the 3rd day of the 54th Bishwa Ijtema began after Fazr prayers through “Ambayan” (general sermon), with followers of Maulana Saad taking part in it.

Indian Maulana Iqbal Hafiz conducted the sermon since morning, and Maulana Abdullah of Kakrail Mosque translated it into Bangla on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi.

However, an early morning shower disrupted activities at the venue.

The capital and many other places across the country experienced rainfall coupled with hailstorm, thunderstorm, and temporary gusty wind, under the influence of a seasonal low over the South Bay.

On Saturday morning, the Akheri Munajat for followers of Maulana Jubair Hassan was held on the same grounds. Maulana Jubair Hassan conducted the munajat from 10:42 am to 11:06 am, Saturday.

Tabligh Jamaat has been organizing the Ijtema at the venue since 1967.

The Ijtema was held in two phases from 2011 to 2017 to ease accommodation and transportation problems.
