32 grenades recovered from fish enclosure in Khulna

Police recovered 32 grenades from a shrimp enclosure in Paikgachha upazila of Khulna yesterday.

The grenades were unearthed when labourers were cutting mud on the edge of the enclosure at Paikgachha village around 10:15pm, said Paikgachha police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Emdadul Haque Sheikh.

The grenades covered in rust were found inside a wooden box in an abandoned state one foot underground, he said.

Upon being informed of the matter, police and a bomb disposal unit from Rapid Action Battalion rushed to the location and recovered the grenades.

But after the unit failed to dispose of the grenades, another bomb disposal team from Bangladesh Army, led by Maj Ashfaq of the 55th Infantry Division from Jessore Cantonment, reached the spot around 9:30pm.

They inspected the grenades, and then disposed them at a secured location around 10:45pm, OC Emdadul confirmed.
