Underage girl subjected to marry abductor in Bogra

An underage girl was allegedly subjected to marry a youth who abducted her from her village in Adamdighi upazila in Bogra. A complaint has recently been submitted to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer that says Brishti Akhter, an eighth-grader of Shantahar Municipality Girls' School and daughter of Hafizar Rahman from Boroakhira village, was abducted by Momin, 20, son of Motahar Ali of the same village on February 14. Momin abducted the girl from the village and confined her in the house of one Ekabbar, an influential person of the locality. Chhatiangram union parishad member Ekhlas Uddin also held an informal arbitration over the issue at Momin's house. The girl's parents were also called in that house. They were allegedly confined there by Ekhlas's followers and the girl was subjected to marry her abductor later. Adamdighi UNO Rezaul Karim told the Dhaka Tribune that he had ordered the chairman and secretary of Chhatiangram union to carry out an investigation into the matter and submit a report. Steps would be taken against the persons involved, if they are found guilty, he added.
