Two suspected criminals have been beaten to death over allegations of robbery and theft, in Jhalakathi and Noakhali on Saturday.
In Jhalakathi, a man was beaten to death by mob after being accused of stealing of a cow at 3am.
The deceased Kalam Sarder was a street vegetable vendor, his second wife Zohora Begum said.
Confirming the matter, Jhalakathi Sadar police station OC Shanit Kumar Gayen said: “The deceased’s wife has filed a murder case accusing unnamed men, and the cow’s owner Tofazzal Mridha has filed another case with the police accusing unnamed men of theft.”
He added that Kalam had no previous cases filed against him.
In Noakhali, a suspected robber was beaten to death by locals at the house of Iqbal Mridha, in West Char Uria village of Sadar Upazila in the early hours of Saturday.
Locals were unable to identify the deceased. Prior to his death, the suspected robber reportedly said a man named Masud was leading the robbery.

According to local sources, there had been numerous robberies in the village and neighbouring areas over the past week. As a result, many locals had resorted to staying awake at night to guard their homes.
Noakhali UP Chairman Adv Ataur Rahman Naser said: “Six houses were robbed in the last week.”
Confirming the matter, Shudharam Model police station OC Anwar Hossai said: “The suspected robber was taken to Noakhali General Hospital, where he was declared dead. A pipe gun was recovered from the spot.”
“Masud has several cases filed against him. Efforts to arrest him are ongoing. He was released from jail a few days ago,” the OC added.
