2 hurt as BCL factions clash at Ctg College over food

Two factions of the Bangladesh Chhatra League locked into a fresh clash leaving two people injured at Chittagong College  on Tuesday, over distributing food.

According to police sources, the annual sporting event began at the parade ground of the college in the morning.

Food was being distributed among the students on the occasion while the post-deprived BCL leaders and activists demanded 200 packets of food.

At one stage, a group of BCL men led by the incumbent committee's president and secretary entered principal's room and locked in a clash leaving the two injured.

The injured are the followers of Chittagong City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin.

Some furniture was allegedly vandalised in the Principal's room during the clash.

The police, however, denied the allegation of vandalism.

Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Nejam Uddin, officer-in-charge of the Chawkbazar police station, said two factions locked into a clash at the college over distribution food during the event.

"The situation is now under control and no arrest has been made," said the OC, adding they deployed additional police on the campus following the clash.

There has been a long-standing rivalry between the two  groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League in the college, that intensified the feud soon after the formation of the new committee.

On September 17, Mahmudul Karim and Subhash Mallick were made president and secretary respectively of the new committee of the Chittagong College chapter of Bangladesh Chhatra League .

Md Abul Hasan, Principal of Chittagong College refused to make any comment in this connection.
