A 32-year-old doctor working at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital took his life on Thursday, stating his wife’s extramarital affairs.
Subsequently, Chittagong police has detained his wife in connection with the incident from the port city’s Nandankanon area.
Mustafa Murshed Akash, the deceased, was declared dead when he was brought to the very hospital where he worked around 6:20am yesterday. According to his younger brother Newaz Murshed, Mustafa injected himself with insulin, which may have led to his death. The cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report is released.
In a Facebook post detailing the relationship between him and his wife Tanzila, Mustafa claimed his wife cheated on him repeatedly yet refused to divorce him when he asked her if she wanted to be with someone else.
Mustafa accused his wife of instigating him and causing him undue grief and distress.
After the post, he changed his profile picture to a photo with his wife, captioned: “Keep well my beloved, with your lovers."
Sometime in the afternoon, the Facebook post was removed.
The bereaving family has refused to elaborate on the subject.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Amena Begum will brief the press about the matter at 11am on Friday, at the Dampara Police Lines.
