DMP commissioner: Proper service to be ensured in all police stations

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia has said proper services will be ensured in all police stations.

"Clear and strict instructions have been provided to not victimize or harass the public when they go to police stations to file GDs (general diaries) or cases, or to get police clearance certificates," he said on Wednesday while addressing a rally on the occasion of police service week.

"We have taken a strict position against any kind of public harassment," Asaduzzaman said. "Service seekers at the stations will be provided with legal aid easily. We will continue to supervise the matter."

Adding that the police are servants of the state, the DMP commissioner said: "It is not our job to force, threaten or beat up people. We have already taken up several projects to raise awareness on the issue, and prevent police officers from engaging in such activities.

"We must ensure that the people put their confidence in us," he said. "People and the police will work in a united way to stop crimes."

The DMP chief further mentioned that they have pledged to root out drug trading from the country. "The way militant networks were destroyed, the drug godfathers will also be brought to book," he said.

Asaduzzaman said: “After the Holey Artisan attack, we have rooted out one militant hideout after another. The network has been broken; militancy will not be able to rear its head in the future."

In the same manner, all drug dens in the metropolitan areas will be torn down, he said. "Drug dealers and addicts will not be spared. Everyone will be brought under the law."

The DMP commissioner further said a database of eight million citizens has been created which will play a helpful role in catching criminals. "Apart from this, various projects, including instalments of CCTV cameras and call centres, have been undertaken."

He assured that women will have the liberty to stay outside at all hours, without having to think about their safety. "Traders will continue to do their business, no one will come for extortion. No one will be able to grab the lands of those who live abroad. We want to make Dhaka a liveable city."

After the inauguration ceremony of Police Service Week 2019, a rally was brought out from the DMP headquarters at Ramna, and it ended at Shantinagar after passing through Kakrail.
