Two construction workers have died after being accidentally buried in soil at a factory in the Sreepur area of Gazipur.
The accident, which left three others injured, occurred at Hamim Spinning Mill during the construction of an effluent treatment plant (ETP) on Monday.
Several workers were buried in soil at the construction site and were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH). Two workers died on Monday night while under treatment.
The deceased are Apon, 24, hailing from Nilphamari, and Mujibur Rahman from the same region. The injured workers are Al Imran, 55, and Sabbir, 25, from Kurigram and Imran, 25, from Panchagarh.
Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jabedul Islam said: “The ETP located inside Hamim Spinning Mill was being expanded, and construction was ongoing at the factory. On Monday noon, workers were building infrastructure inside a 35ft-deep hole.
“Soil from one side of the hole collapsed on top the workers, burying them alive. Nearby workers immediately began digging out their trapped coworkers. Five severely injured men were taken to MMCH, and two among them died while undergoing treatment.”
