A lorry driver has been killed, and three others have been injured, in a road accident in Kalihati upazila of Tangail.
A train hit a vehicle on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway in Analiabari area of the upazila early on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Rahmat Ali, 55, son of Abdul Hamid of Ramadia area in Kishoreganj.
Mosharaf Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station, said that initially, a Dhaka-bound lorry collided head-on with a salt-laden truck from Dhaka; near a rail crossing in Analiabari area.
The collision, coupled with the lorry driver’s lack of control over steering, caused the vehicle to veer onto the railway track.
Then, a Lalmonirhat Express train, from Dhaka, rammed the lorry, killing the driver on the spot.
Three others, including the truck driver and lorry-helper sustained injuries in the collisions. The body of the deceased was recovered and kept inside the police station, the OC added.
