Man commits suicide in police custody in Natore

Police recovered the body of the main accused in connection with the murder of three van drivers from the Bagatipara police station in Natore on Tuesday. 

The deceased has been identified as Mohsin, 25, of the Begunia area of Bagatipara upazila’s Paka union.

Bagatipara police station OC Swapan Chowdhury confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

He was arrested from the Gazipur area of Dhaka in the early hours of Tuesday.

Additional Superintendent of Police Akramul Hossain and Executive Magistrate Nazmul Alam visited the spot after receiving the news. Police said Mohsin committed suicide with a blanket provided by the police station.

Bagatipara police station Assistant Sub-Inspector(ASI) Golam Rabbani said three van drivers of Shalainagar, Mallikapur and Chinnapur areas of Bagatipara upazila were killed overa period of time after nightfall. 

Three people were detained after a case was filed against an unknown accused in the incident. The detainees named Mohsin as the main culpritin their confessional statements in court. But Mohsin was absconding in Dhaka, he said.

On the basis of secret information, a team of Bagatipara police arrested Mohsin from the Maona Uttarpara area of Gazipur in Dhakaaround 12:55amon Tuesday and he was brought to the police station around 9am in the morning.

Later, his body was found hanging in his cell around 11am.

Police sentMohsin'sbody to the Natore Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said the police ASI.
