Former Dhaka District Awami League organizing secretary, Abu Siddique, 52, was severely injured, as unknown miscreants indiscriminately hacked him in Keraniganj.
According to Rana, a relative of the victim, a gang of miscreants attacked Abu Siddique with sharp weapons, soon after he had reached Madhu City at Joynagar in Taranagar around 3.30pm, following information of an attack on his son Sifat Ahmed, 18.
The same gang had earlier attacked Sifat; a second year BBA student at ULAB, but he survived as their driver Sabuj, 25, managed to save him [Sifat], during which the driver suffered sharp weapon injuries on both hands. They also broke his leg, he added.
Siddique, who was a member of the election managing committee of the Awami League for the Dhaka 2 constituency, has undergone surgery at the Labaid Hospital, while driver Sabuj is receiving treatment at the Atibazar Central Hospital.
Keraniganj Model police station Officer-in-charge Shaker Mohammad Zobayer said, the attack was carried out following a previous enmity and appropriate action would be taken after investigation.
A case is being filed with the police station, he added.
