An Awami League leader has died in a road accident on the Dhaka-Tangail highway near Nogor Jolfoi area.
The deceased—Badal Mia, 40, who hailed from Nogor Jolfoi area—was the organizing secretary of eastern Tangail region’s Awami League. The accident occurred around 1:30pm on Friday.
Locals blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway after the accident. Later, police arrived and brought the situation under control, at 2pm.
Police sergeant of Tangail traffic police Rajan Datta said: "On Friday afternoon, while going home on a motorcycle, Badal Mia was hit by a Dhaka-bound bus. Badal died on the spot, leaving his passenger injured."
The injured was admitted to Tangail General Hospital, and Badal's body was sent to the morgue for autopsy, Rajan said.
The sergeant furthered that although police seized the bus, the driver ran away.
