Injured Bogra AL leader dies in DMCH

Bogra Awami League leader Nazmul Huda Duel, 38, union parishad member and a ward president who was injured during the election time violence, breathed his last at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday.

Earlier, on Wednesday afternoon, Nazmul was airlifted from the Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital to DMCH after his condition deteriorated.

Nazmul was the son of Solaiman Islam of the upazila.

Earlier on Sunday, Awami League activist Azizul Islam, 28, was killed in the same attack in the Kahaloo upazila under the Bogra 4 constituency (Kahaloo-Nandigram). 

According to locals, Azizur, Nazmul and Mahbubur Rahman were having a chat at outside the Bageel village polling centre after casting their votes.

In the meantime BNP-Jamaat men were passing by and taunted them. While protesting about the provoking remarks, they were severely beaten up by the BNP-Jamaat men.

Kahaloo police station OC Shawkat Kabir, and Paikar Union Chairman Mithu Chowdhury, told the Dhaka Tribune that BNP activists were responsible for the attack, which left Azizul dead and Nazmul injured, at the time.

Mithu said that Nazmul’s body will be brought back to his home after the autopsy is completed.

Azizur’s brother Zahidur already filed a case at the Kahaloo police station against 171 BNP-Jamaat men, while mentioning names of 21 people. Three were already arrested, they are- Makbul Hossain, Ranger Rahman and Minhaz.
