The Chittagong Zoo authorities have constructed a new aviary to house some new species of birds for visitors.
Chittagong Zoo Executive Committee President and Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Elias Hossain formally inaugurated the aviary on Wednesday.
The 60-foot long, 25-foot wide and 30-foot high aviary has 342 birds of six species: 20 pairs of love birds, 50 pairs of laughing doves, 10 pairs of pheasants, 10 pairs of ringneck parakeets, 50 pairs of cockatiels, and one pair of macaws.
Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Chittagong Zoo Executive Committee’sMember Secretary Ruhul Amin said: “The mini aviary was constructed at the cost of Tk32 lakh.”
The Chittagong Zoo was opened for public on February 28, 1989. It is operated by the Chittagong district administration and is built on 2.5 hectares of hilly terrain in the city’s Foy’s Lake area.
