Returns up by 16.84% on 4th day of income tax fair

The government received around Tk253.16 crore on the fourth day of the week-long nationwide income tax fair on Friday.

The submitted returns amounted to a 16.84% increase compared to the same day last year.

The number of people who submitted tax returns at the fair increased by 48.22% to 288,046, as compared to 75,736 taxpayers on the same day last year. 

Around 3,651 people received their new Electronic Tax Identification Number (e-TIN), up by 119.68% from 1,662 registered on the day last year.

In the first four days of the fair, the National Board of Revenue bagged Tk1,267.56 crore, which is Tk66.194 crore more than the amount received over the same period in 2017.

There was a 240.85% upsurge in the issuance of the new e-TIN as compared to last year, with 19,415 having received the e-TIN in the first four days this year and just 5,696 people in 2017.

The fair began across the country on Tuesday, aiming to increase the number of taxpayers and augmenting tax income to increase the country’s tax-GDP ratio. 

To facilitate tax-related transactions and help visitors, 44 e-TIN registration booths, two e-payment booths, 72 return filing booths, 50 help desks, and two emergency health booths have been set up  on the fair premises in Dhaka.

The fair, scheduled to end on Monday, is taking place in all divisional headquarters. It will also take place for four days in 56 districts, two days in 32 upazilas, and one day in 70 upazilas.
