Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra maritime ports have been instructed to hoist local cautionary signal number 2 flags, as the cyclonic storm 'Gaja' on southwest bay and adjoining southeast bay and central bay has moved slightly west or north-westwards over the same area.
A special bulletin of the Met office said the cyclone was locatedaround1260 km southwest of Chittagong port at 6am on Wednesday, 1205 km southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1165 km southwest of Mongla port and 1150 km southwest of Payra port, reports UNB.
The storm is expected to intensify further and move in a west or south-westerly direction.
Maximum sustained wind speeds within 54 km of the cyclone’s centre is about 62 kph, rising to 88 kph in gusts or squalls. The sea will remain very rough near the cyclone’s centre.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution untilfurther notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
