5 commit suicide in Niphamari, Cox’s Bazar

Five people including two sisters have committed suicide in Nilphamari and Cox’s Bazar on Saturday and Friday.

In Nilphamari, three people committed suicide in separate incidents, in different areas of Domar upazila.

The deceased were identified as Asma Begum, 25, wife of Khorshed Alam of Collegepara area; Shahana Akhter, 14, daughter of Azumuddin Sarder of Babupara village and Anita Rani, 30, wife of Promod Chandra of Nimzkhana Hat area of the upazila.

Asma and Shahana’s body were found by the police on Saturday. It is suspected that they committed suicide because of family feuds.

Meanwhile, Anita’s body was recovered on Saturday, but the reason of her suicide is yet to be found.

Domar police station OC Moksed Ali has confirmed the news.

He said: “Asma and Anita’s body have been sent for autopsy. We are suspecting that Asma may have been murdered and for that, her husband Khorshed has been arrested for interrogation. On the other hand, Shahana’s body was handed over to her family, as there was no complaint from her family.”

In Cox’s Bazar, two sisters committed suicide by hanging themselves on Saturday afternoon at the Ramu upazila’s Shikderpara area.

The deceased were identified as Marzia Akhter, 17 and Taslima Akhter, 13, daughters of Nazir Hossain of the area.

Ramu police station OC Abul Mansur has confirmed the news. 

He said: “There was a note found in their room, where it read ‘nobody is responsible for their death’. The bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.”

Police are trying to find out the reason for the suicides.
