An allegedly notorious terrorist has been killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of police in Rajbari.
The incident occurred in the Kuthi Panchuria bazaar area of sadar upazila around 1:30am on Thursday.
The deceased – Mohammad Ali Sheikh, 35 – was son of Abdul Wahab Sheikh of Doyalbond village under Panchuria union.
DB Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kamal Hossain Bhuiyan told the Dhaka Tribune: "Acting on a tip-off, we arrived at the spot, where the gang of terrorists was meeting. Upon spotting us, the terrorists opened fire on us, forcing us to strike back, which sparked a gunfight."
He said at one point of the gunfight, the terrorists managed to escape. Later, the DB police found a body with bullet injuries while searching the site.
Locals then present identified the body as "terrorist" Mohammad Ali Sheikh.
Law enforcers recovered an American nine millimeter pistol, two bullets, a foreign two-barreled gun, and 12 cartridges at the site.
Two DB members were taken to Rajbari Sadar Hospital for treatment because they were injured in the gunfight.
Rajbari Sadar Hospital Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Ali Ahsan Tuhin said: "Mohammad Ali died on the way to the hospital; his body had two bullet wounds to the chest."
The body is being kept in Rajbari Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
