Based on special intelligence information, Rangpur Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested the divisional military commander Rahat Hossain and his associate Riazul Islam, members of the banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), on Thursday afternoon.
RAB-13 said they received a tip-off that the JMB in Dinajpur district and in Rangpur division are secretly building and increasing their members to plan a sabotage mission.
Subsequently, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the Kotwali police station’s rail colony in Dinajpur district and arrested Rahat Hossain and his associate Riazul Islam.
The elite force seized three foreign pistols, 32 rounds of ammunition and numerous jihadi literature and leaflets from their possession.
Additional Deputy Inspector General (ADIG) Mozammel Haque said this at a press conference held at RAB-13 headquarters in Rangpur.
RAB-13 ADIG said it has been confirmed that the militants were organizing a big sabotage mission and that the arrest for their associated members is still on-going.
In this regard, two lawsuits are being filed against them under the Special Powers Act and Arms Act, he added.
