47 Jamaat, BNP men held across country

More than 47 Jamaat and BNP leaders and activists were held across the country on Tuesday.

In Satkhira, police arrested four Islami Chhatra Shibir men including its district unit president and secretary with a firearm and ammunition.

The arrested are Ruhul Amun, 30, Shibir president Nurul Amin, 27, secretary, Baki Billah, 32, and Sagor Hossain, 23, activists of Shibir.

Shahriar Hasan, sub-inspector of the Satkhira DB police, said on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive at a house owned by one Liakat in the Kaloroa upazila while the Shibir men were holding a secret meeting.

The police arrested these four while other activists managed to flee the scene, the SI added.

A firearm, two bombs, some bullets and few jihadi books had been recovered from the spot, he also said.

In Narail, police arrested six leaders of the Narail BNPdistrict unit including Lohagara Mohila Dal Vice-President Saleha Begum in the afternoon.

Lohagara police station Officer-in-Charge Probir Kumar Biswas said police arrested Saleha and five others from the upazila health complex area in a case of arson attack.

In Hili, Dinajpur, members of law enforcers arrested three Jamaat men including a union level secretary from the Hakimpur area in a case over vandalism.

The arrested are Abdul Mannan, 56, Jamaat secretary of the Alihat union council, Motaleb Hossain, 35, and Mamunur Rashid, 26, activists of Jamaat.

Hakimpur police station Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain said the arrested were wanted in many cases including vandalism.

In Manikganj, police arrested at least 34 leaders and activists of Manikganj district BNPunit from the Singair area while they were preparing to go to Dhaka to attend the Jatiya Oikya Front rally.

Singair police station Officer-in-Charge Khondoker Iman Hossain said the police arrested 34 BNP persons from Singair mor area as they were wanted in many cases including vandalism.

On the other hand, SA Kabir Zinnah, the district unit BNP secretary, said police attacked the peaceful rally and arrested 34 of their leaders and activists without issues.
