A Bangladeshi cattle trader has reportedly been beaten to death by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Chapainawabganj.
The incident took place along Johurpur Tek border, under sadar upazila, in the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased is Dalim Majhi, son of Monglu Majhi, from Nishipara village of Panka union under Shibganj Upazila.
According to locals – and Narayanpur Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Kamal Uddin Huda – BSF members of Patlatola camp held Dalim near international border pillar no 19/4 international when a group of cattle traders went to India for cattle. Then, the BSF members beat him to death with their rifles.
Confirming the matter, the UP chairman said Dalim’s associates recovered his body and brought it to his home around 6am.
He had several injury marks on his body. Therefore, they believe he was beaten to death, added the chairman.
Chapainawabganj Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) 53 Battalion Commander Lt Colonel Sajjad Sarwar told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have heard of the news but it has not yet been confirmed. If the news is true, we will take strict legal action regarding the matter.”
