Shahidul Alam conferred Lifetime Achievement Award

Internationally acclaimed Bangladesh photographer, journalist, and activist Shahidul Alam has been conferred the prestigious Prof Satish Bahadur Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Media Education in South Asia.

The National Institute of Design (NID) of Ahmedabad, India announced the award through the Alpavirama Asian Short & Documentary Film Festival on Friday.

Renowned Indian curator Ina Puri, a close associate of Shahidul’s, received the award on his behalf.

In her speech, Ina Puri said Shahidul is a symbol of intellectual engagement and practical commitment.

Shahidul has been in police custody since August 5. His arrest followed an interview he gave to Al Jazeera in which he criticized the government following issues raised during the then-ongoing student protests in Dhaka.
