A housewife has been strangled allegedly by her husband at Char Majid village of Char Jabbar in Noakhali on Friday.
The deceased is Kohinoor Akhter, 30, the wife of Millat, 35.
"The victim had moved to their new house in Char Majid five days prior to this incident," said Officer-in-Charge of Char Jabbar police station Md Nizam Uddin.
Police arrested Millat after his father Shahjahan Dubai informed locals about the murder committed by his son. The locals later informed the police who recovered the body from the village on Friday at 11pm.
The victim's neighbour Shima Begum said: “Last Friday at 3am, Mim (the victim's daughter) began screaming in terror. So when I over to see what the matter was, Mim came home with me and said neither of her parents are home. Next morning, after I informed her grandfather Shahjahan Dubai, who lives in a neighbouring village, he came and took the child away.”
Shahjahan said: “I became suspicious after seeing how terrified Mim was and phoned my son Millat immediately. When he confessed to killing his wife by strangling her, I asked him to return home and handed him over to the locals to get him arrested.
“Millat has voluntarily confessed to the murder before the locals and showed them where he buried the body inside the house. The locals then informed the police who dug out Kohinoor's body from inside the house,” he said.
When asked for the reason behind the murder, Millat said he killed his wife because he did not like her anymore.
OC Nizam confirmed the body has been sent for a postmortem and a murder case will also be filed in this regard.
