According to the updated draft voter list of the Chittagong election office, the voting age population in the district has grown by around 14% since the last national election.
As per the new draft voter roll, there are now 5,641,219 voters in the 16 constituencies of Chittagong, which is an increase of 718,742 over the voters of 2013.
There are now an additional 59 polling centres in the district, bringing the total up to 1,899.
Chittagong-8 Constituency (Boalkhali-Chandgaon) has the largest number of polling centres, 170. Chittagong-15 (Satkania-Lohagara) has 147, Chittagong-9 (Kotwali) has 144 and Chittagong-11 has 143.
Eight in Mirsarai, three in Fatikchhari, three in Rangunia, 12 in Patiya, one in Raozan, seven in Karnaphuli, one in Anwara, one in Chandanaish and 13 polling centres in Satkania have been newly created.
As per the updated draft, there are 2,914,054 male voters and 2,727,165 female voters.
"The voter list and polling centres have been updated ahead of the 11th parliamentary election. The updated draft has already been sent to the headquarters of the Election Commission," said district Election Officer Munir Hussain Khan.
"We are still verifying the list. An error-free voter list will be published," added the officer.
