BSF kills one in Thakurgaon border

Indian Border Security Forces has killed a Bangladeshi man at Thakurgaon’s Baliadangi upazila.

The victim’s body was found from the Nagar River in the upazila’s Rotnai border region on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Sadikur Rahman, 27, son of Khatib Uddin of Horinmari village.

Amjankhor Union Parishad Chairman Md Akalu has confirmed the news.

According to local sources, Sadikur and his friends illegally entered into India through 382 pillar area. At the time 171 BSF members fired at them and Sadikur got shot. In fear of getting killed, his friends abandoned him in the river and fled to back to Bangladesh.

After the news spread, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police went to search for Sadikur. His body was later found in the Nagar River near the 382 pillar area at 11pm.

Baliadangi police station OC (Investigation) Chitto Ranjan Das said: “We think he was shot. We can say more about the issue after the autopsy is done at the Thakurgaon Mordern Sadar Hospital morgue.”

BGB 50 acting commander Major Jahangir said: “To know about the actual detail of the incident, we’ve sent a letter to BSF for a flag meeting but have not heard from their side yet.”
