Valiant freedom fighter and journalist AKM Raisul Huq Bahar has died of cardiac arrest.
He was 66.
Bahar died around 11pm on Tuesday at a private hospital in Chittagong, where he was taken after he complained of chest pain.
During the Liberation War, Bahar was a guerilla commander and led many successful operations in Chittagong city.
The former Chittagong Port accountant started his career in journalism with the local daily Sebok, in 1972. Later, he worked with the Daily Gonokantha and the daily, Suprobhat Bangladesh. He also served as Chittagong bureau chief for The Daily Star.
He was an associate editor at the local daily, Purbokone, before his death.
Bahar was also involved in the script writing of the movie, 'Operation Jackpot.' He edited the book 'Chittagong Port in Liberation War,' and translated 'The Last Raja of West Pakistan.'
People from all walks of life paid tribute when his body was taken to Chittagong Central Shaheed Minar at 11am on Wednesday.
His namaz-e-janaza was held on the premises of Chittagong Port after Zohr prayers.
He was laid to rest at the Chittagong Port graveyard.
He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
