ACC summons BNP’s Morshed Khan, JaPa’s Ruhul Amin Hawlader

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former foreign minister M Morshed Khan and Jatiya Party (JaPa) Secretary General Ruhul Amin Hawlader for illegally obtaining wealth.

ACC Public Relations Official Pranab Kumar Bhatacharyee confirmed the news on Thursday.

Hawlader has been told to be present at the ACC office on September 18, in a letter signed by ACC Deputy Director Syed Ahmad.

In another letter signed by ACC Deputy Director Shamsul Alam, Morshed and his wife were asked to be present at the ACC office on the same day.

Earlier, on June 28 of last year, the ACC Deputy Director Director Sheikh Abdus Salam filed a case against 16 people including BNP leader Morshed for allegedly embezzling Tk383 crore of AB Bank.

The accused are – Pacific Telecom Bangladesh Limited (PTBL) Chairman M Morshed Khan and Vice- Chairman Asgar Karim, Directors Nasir Khan and CEO Mehboob Chowdhury.

Accused from AB Bank are former managing directors - Kaiser Ahmed Chowdhury, M Fazlur Rahman, Shamim Ahmed Chowdhury, Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury, Credit Risk Management Department Official Salma Akhter, EVP Mahadeb Sarkar Suman, SVPs and Relationship Managers – Syed Farhad Alam, Arshad Mahmud Khan and Md Jahangir Alam, SAVP (Operations) Shahanur Parvin Chowdhury, AVP and Branch Manager Zar Elahi Khan and Relationship Officer Md Kamaruzzaman.

The plaintiff mentioned in the case that Morshed Khan had bank guarantee in four board meetings of AB Bank, illegally and without any collateral and the bank officials were also involved in this matter.
