A man has been strangled to death by two friends in Gazipur for not repaying loan, police say.
Al Mamun, 19, and Imam Hossain, 20, gave the confessional statement to the court on Monday, said Sripur police station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahidul Islam Molla, also the investigation officer in this case.
Police arrested Mamun in Mymensingh’s Nandail upazila on Sunday night. Based on his information, police arrested his accomplice Imam in Gazipur’s Sripurupazila the next day.
According to their statement, the victim, Rasel Mollah, 26, borrowed Tk2,000 from Mamun a few months ago.
The duo worked at a garment factory in Gazipur’s Rajendrapur area and became friends.
As Rasel failed to repay the loan in time they split up.
On August 8, Mamun asked Rasel to meet him at Rajendrapur market to discuss the repayment of the loan.
Meanwhile, Mamun called Imam to come over with a hammer.
Rasel went to the place and offered them to visit his place to get the money.
On their way to Rasel’s place, the trio locked in an altercation.
At one point, Imam hit Rasel with the hammer. As Rasel fell on the ground, Mamun along with Imam strangled him to death with a belt.
The duo took away Rasel’s mobile phone and Tk7,000 from his pocket.
On August 10, police recovered Rasel’s body from a field near his house in Bonkhoria.
The victim’s mother Rabeya Begum filed a case with Sripur police station following the incident.
Police arrested Mamun on Sunday via information technology, Investigation Officer SI Shahidul said.
The next day, the duo made confessional statement before the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Hamidul Islam.
The court ordered them to jail, the investigation officer added.
