At least five people, including three women and a child, have been killed and 40 others injured in a collision between two buses in Rangpur city’s CO Bazar area.
Two of the deceased were identified as Roksana Begum, and Azmun Begum.
Of the injured, 30 were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon as a Panchagarh-bound BRTC bus collided with a Dinajpur-bound bus, leaving two dead on the spot, Kotwali police station’s OC Moktarul Islam said.
Three others died in the hospital, he said.
Police impounded the buses but the drivers and their assistants managed to flee, the OC added.
Meanwhile, the district commission formed a three-member committee to probe the accident.
The committee has been asked to submit its report within a week, Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib said.
