A robber gang leader has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Baliakandi of Rajbari.
The “gunfight” took place on Monday around 2:30am near the Gorai River shore at the Alankarpur village of the Upazila.
The deceased was identified as Bhadu Sheikh, 40 son of Isak Sheikh of Gaabindapur village of Khanganj union of RajbariSadarupazila.
Police have recovered two one-shooter guns, a fresh cartridge, five empty bullet shells and a machete from the spot.
According to police Bhadu had four robbing cases against him, one arms and one theft case were filed against him.
Baliakandipoice station OC Hasina Begum has confirmed the news. She said: “Bhadu along with his men was preparing for a robbery. Acting on a tip the police went to the spot, while sensing the presence Bhadu and his men opened fire at the police and the police also retaliated.”
“Bhadu was caught up in the crossfiring and died,” the OC said.
The OC further said: “Also three police men were injured in the shootout and are currently undergoing treatment at the Baliakandiupazila Health Complex. The deceased’s body was sent to RajbariSadar Hospital for autopsy.”
