5 killed, 21 injured in Gopalganj road accidents

At least five people have been killed, and 21 injured, in two separate road accidents in Gopalganj district.

Of the deceased, two were identified as SM Arafat Hasan Prince, senior principle officer of Rupali Bank’s Motijheel branch, and Prince’s cousin Shimul, 40.

Three people were killed, and 20 others injured, when a bus rammed into a roadside tree on the Dhaka-Barisal highway, under Muksudpur upazila around 11:30am on Tuesday.

Faridpur Bhanga highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mahfuzur Rahman said: “The bus rammed into a roadside tree because its driver lost control over the steering, in Muksudpur, killing three people on the spot.”

The injured have been sent to a local hospital.

In another accident, two people were killed, and another injured, in a head-on collision between a bus and a private car. This occurred on the Dhaka-Khulna highway, around 6am, and killed Prince and Shimul on the spot.

Prince’s wife Meskatoi Jahan Ferdousi Keka, 30, was injured and has been admitted to the Gopalganj General Hospital.

Gopinath police outpost Inspector Hazrat Ali confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

Gopalganj Fire Service’s Station Officer Nur Mohammad Shikdar said the bodies have been recovered.
