“We have already made progress in combating militancy,” Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque told a meeting on community policing in Dinajpur town.
Shahidul mentioned that all the militants killed in gunfights or arrested by the police were from Rangpur range.
“No one will be spared if anyone conspires against the state or participate in subversive activities. We will uproot them with the help of the people.”
He said that at least 16 police members had been killed during 2013-15 while on duty.
Others who attended the meeting include Rangpur range Deputy Inspector General Khandaker Golam Faruque, Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Mir Khairul Alam and Superintendent of Police Hamidul Alam.
Earlier, 176 people took oaths at the programme promising that they will never take drugs. They were given sewing machines and rickshaws under a rehabilitation programme.
