Police detained 16 people from the gate of executed war criminal Salaudin Quader Chowdhury’s Chittagong residence Saturday night allegedly for holding a “secret meeting” inside the house.
Acting on a tip-off, police detained the group who were of different ages and professions as they were coming out of the “Goods Hill,” the family residence of Salauddin.
Salauddin’s younger brother Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury was inside the house when the police detained them.
Confirming the detention, Jashim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that the detainees had been holding a clandestine meeting.
“On secret information, we conducted a drive around 8pm. Sensing the presence of the police, they were trying to get away. However, we apprehended 16 persons from the entrance of the residence,” said the OC, adding that they had been trying to verify the identities of the detainees at the time of filing this report.
SM Mostain Hossain, deputy commissioner (south) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, said that they were trying to find out why these individuals had gone to the house of a convicted war criminal. "We are looking into the matter very seriously.”
