A suspected pirate has been killed in a "gunfight" with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on an island of the Baleshwar River.
The incident occurred in Behingachar area in the early hours of Saturday.
Quoting Barisal RAB 8 sources, Patharghata police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Molla Mohammad Khobir Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune: “The deceased is Kajol, the leader of pirate gang Kajol Bahini.
“The ringleader was shot dead during a gunfight with RAB personnel. Three firearms and ammunition were also seized from the scene.”
RAB will hand over the body of the deceased and seized contraband to Patharghata police, said the OC.
