A Rangpur court has sentenced two people to lifetime imprisonment for raping a college student in 2010.
Judge Jabid Hasan of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal handed down the verdict on Thursday.
The judge also fined the convicts – rapist Tajkir Hossain and his accomplice Dulali Begum – Tk 25,000. They will have to stay six more months behind bars if they fail to pay the fine.
According to case details, Tajkir raped the third-year student of Rangpur Carmichael University College, in Dulali’s dormitory room, at gunpoint.
Following the incident, the victim filed a case with the Kotwali police station.
Police submitted a charge sheet against Tajkir and Dulali following investigation.
