A garment worker has been killed in a road accident in Gazipur, sparking protest.
The deceased has been identified as Monwara Khatun, 22, a worker of Capital Design factory. She hailed from Sherpur district.
Locals said a bus ran over Monwara on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway when she was returning home from her workplace on Saturday night.
She died on the spot.
As the news spread, her co-workers took to the streets. They impounded the bus and set fire to it.
Two units of Joydebpur Fire Service doused the fire.
Akhtaruzzaman, deputy assistant director of the fire service, said the bus was burnt, but there were no casualties.
Traffic came to a halt due to the demonstration, causing suffering to the people.
Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
