Two physicians of Max Hospital Chittagong have been sacked after a probe committee found their negligence in the treatment of a girl child, leading to her death.
The hospital authority dismissed Dr Debashish Sengupta and Dr Shuvra Deb on Saturday, reports UNB.
Raifa Khan, 3, daughter of Rubel Khan, a staff reporter of the Daily Samakal, died due to wrong treatment at the private hospital in the port city on the early morning of June 29.
A probe committee instituted by the Health Ministry found evidence of negligence in her treatment, said Dr Md Liakat Ali Khan, managing director of the hospital.
The committee was formed on June 30 with Chittagong Civil Surgeon Azizur Rahman Siddique at its head.
The probe committee found evidence of negligence of the on-duty physicians, nurses and hospital authority in the baby girl’s treatment.
The Chittagong Journalists’ Union (CUJ) disclosed the probe report on Friday morning at a press briefing at Chittagong Press Club.
According to the probe report, the concerned doctors did not have the required experience and sincerity when the baby developed severe convulsion. The on-duty nurses did not have the knowledge or expertise to face the emergency situation at that moment.
The probe committee also found that the allegation of the parents of the deceased that Dr Debashish Sen Gupta and Dr Shuvra Dev did not provide sincere services when the condition of the patient deteriorated, was true.
The investigators also found that the patients have to face sufferings while getting admission into the errant hospital. There is a lack of coordination between the nurses and the doctors while providing services and lack of proper monitoring during the treatment.
The hospital is seriously lacking in the medical management due to inexperienced nurses and physicians.
The 28-month-old daughter of journalist Rubel Khan died on June 29 at Max Hospital of Chittagong city while undergoing treatment of cold and sore throat.
Later on, the child’s father alleged that her daughter died due to wrong treatment at the private hospital.
